Branson, MO (July 26, 2017) – The City of Branson recently conducted random compliance checks on Branson businesses holding liquor licenses to confirm that clerks are properly verifying the legal age of alcohol purchasers in compliance with the City of Branson’s liquor ordinance. The Branson Police Department conducted random spot checks throughout the city over the course of two days with the assistance of minors on July 18 and 19, 2017.

Of 88 businesses in the compliance check sample, all but eight – or 91% of the random sample – were found to be in compliance with the ordinance. Of the eight businesses found in violation, three were package stores while the other five were sold by the drink as follows:

PACKAGED LIQUOR:

  • Branson Woods Marketplace
  • Mount Pleasant Winery
  • White Oak Station #20 (4017 W Hwy 76)

LIQUOR BY THE DRINK:

  • Cici’s Pizza
  • Foxy’s Bistro
  • Radisson Hotel
  • Smith Creek Moonshine
  • Texas Land and Cattle

This 91% compliance rate remains steady compared to the July 2016 compliance checks in which 97 businesses also returned a 91% compliance success rate. This compliance continues to remain approximately 20% higher than in years past, a success that City of Branson leaders attribute largely to the training programs mandated by the City to train servers, cashiers and bartenders with regard to liquor sales laws and regulations and proper identification checking procedures.

Under city code, every business with a liquor license is required to undergo this mandatory “Regular Liquor Selling” training session. All staff members responsible for selling or serving liquor including managers, servers, bartenders and cashiers must attend within 60 days of hiring and every two years thereafter. This helps to mitigate the risks of selling to individuals under the age of 21 or intoxicated buyers.
